Singers invited to participate in
A grand multimedia musical theater production
To be performed in  the twin cities in May 2011
Here is a unique opportunity for singers from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Indian community to perform in this magnum opus Shanti that is at the forefront of the Indian American Choral movement. Shanti is an expansive, collaborative musical theater production that explores the meanings of peace and interconnectedness through choral music. Shanti has made history in Cincinnati OH, Lehigh Valley PA and Houston TX and is soon to be performed in Tampa FL (www.shantichoir.org) . We are working towards a performance of Shanti in the twin cities in May next year.

Shanti’s scale is staggering. At the core of the production is an 120 strong combined choir featuring an Indian community choir along with western choirs. Accompanying this choir will be a 30 piece orchestra along with several dance companies.

Here is a rare opportunity to work with internationally renowned musician and composer Kanniks Kannikeswaran, composer and director of Shanti - A Journey of Peace.

Contact Mouli at 612 424 5176 or mouli@mouliengg.com if you are interested in participating.

Kanniks can be reached at www.kanniks.com.

Thank you and regards
Mouli

Dream Mile (5K/10K Run and Fun Walk) on 19th September

SILC participates in Vibha Kalakar event every year as a means to encourage creativity in SILC students and also to support children in need.

SILC encourages it studetns and families to participate in DREAM MILE.

Here is info about DREAM MILE from http://wiki.vibha.org/Dream_Mile:2010_Twin_Cities_Home

The Dream Mile is the flagship event in Vibha's continued efforts to increase awareness about the plight of underprivileged children. It has come a long way since its inception in 1998. It has grown from being a small event attended primarily by volunteers and friends to a permanent fixture on the calendars of runners in the various cities in America. The increasing participation and enthusiasm for this event just goes to show how strongly people feel about the cause of underprivileged children. This is the seventh successive year that Vibha-MN is organizing a walk/run event in the Twin Cities. The 5K and 10K Run events will be timed and awards will be given away in several age categories.

SILC Scholarship Application 2010-11

SILC has always strived to be a school that is open to all. We have students and parents from all parts of the world. We make instruction that is inclusive to all faiths and traditions. Anyone interested in learning about India is welcome to attend and explore its rich language and culture.

As such, SILC is proud to offer a scholarship to those who would like to attend but may find it difficult to pay for the yearly fee. SILC will waive 50% of the fee for students who qualify. To qualify, the parent(s) must write a paragraph demonstrating need. Please explain why this fee is excessive for your family. We do not require income information. Applications are due by October 2nd, 2010, though exceptions can be made for students who start later in the year.

First Day (18th September) Logistics

Dear SILC community:

Welcome to SILC and another academic year.

Please note down the following logistics and timings for tomorrow; Also note down why it is important and required to formally register.

[1] SILC starts at 10 AM and ends at 12:30 PM. There will be an orientation to the new families at 10 AM. Please make sure that you arrive in time so that you have the opportunity of meeting SILC volunteers and teachers.

[2] Many of you have sent the registration forms and are planning to pay the fee on the first day. Please stop by between 9:30 and 9:45 to pay the registration fee; Alternatively, you can pay the registration fee during the first break (from 10:45 to 11:00)

[3] Many of returning families and some new families are planning to do on-site registration tomorrow morning. Those families need to come to SILC between 9:15 and 9:45 to do the registration. It is still preferred to send us registration forms through email to info@silcmn.com so as to minimize the time and effort on the first day.

[4] Some families may be out of station tomorrow; Please send the registration forms through email so that you will be included in SILC2010-11 mailing list; Only then, you will continue to receive the notifications. This will be my last email to all the members (SILC familieis from last year, those who expressed interest in SILC; those who have registered so far). However, starting from tomorrow 18th September, our email communication will be limited to only those families who have registered. Of course, any one can go to http://www.silcmn.com to be aware of happenings at SILC

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us or email or stop by tomorrow.

See you all tomorrow.

SILC starts on 18th September (not on 11th September)

Dear SILC Community:

I understand many of you are eagerly waiting to come to SILC tomorrow (and some of you are planning to come and register) 11th Saturday.

However, due to unexpected hiccup in St. Paul school district (one of the high schools is closing down and the students/teachers are all moving to como school over the weekend), we will not be able to use Como High School for SILC classes tomorrow. First day of the classes on 11th September are canceled due to this. We will resume our classes on 18th September next Saturday.

On behalf of SILC, I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused any of you

On a brighter side, we have good number of registrations so far (we have 100 students so far) with many returning families and new families planning to come and register on the first day of classes. We are going to have a great year. We will see you all on 18th;

Please let me know if there are any further questions.
